Hard to Make Arrangements With Yourself. . .

I had two students come up to me Monday and tell me how they made good choices and used their best judgment over last weekend at that much-dreaded party I mentioned a couple posts ago. One even came to speak with me during lunch. By the smile on this child's face, I could see his pride and perhaps even a little relief that he had excused himself from the stress that comes from bad choices. It felt really good to hear them putting trust in the idea that they don't have to go with the crowd in order to be liked, and to know that I had made some inroads if they really were brave enough to resist bad choices. Hooray for them.

They do come through sometimes huh ? I think the secret of these situations is having faith that there will always be a couple sometimes more sometimes less who are open to a positive message from us. I find the 7th and 8th grade boys sometimes scare me with the way they seem to hang on stuff I say. I forget they usually have little positive contact with adult males and it sometimes makes me feels very good and sometimes intimidates me. Glad to hear you had some good feedback.

r/m-interesting. i think you're right about them not having positive adult males in their lives. we noticed the same when the taller half and i worked at a charter school after-care for a couple years. the kids really gravitated to him and listened to him more profoundly.

enc-thanks for the nickname. i love neil young to an unhealthy degree.
